The English Language Institute

The English Language Institute is designed to enhance your English language skills in academic, professional and social settings. Our instructors are trained in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to create a rewarding and enjoyable classroom experience for you. Our setting in historic Charleston offers additional opportunities to participate in a wide range of community and school-based activities, which further enrich your learning experience. You will find that your education at the College of Charleston’s English Language Institute will help you to reach your goals successfully.

Intensive English Program

  • Designed for students who want to study English full-time.
  • Study for a total of 20 hours per week in 8-week sessions during the academic year. There are two 5-week summer sessions.
  • Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Level courses.
  • Students will receive individual evaluations of their speech/language skills. Based on the results, a customized program will be developed for each student. Emphasis is placed on pronunciation and accent modification, as well as intonation and syllable stress.
