Undergraduate Programs / Bachelor's Courses

Two-Year Programs
There are many colleges in US offering two years study program at undergraduate level.These colleges are known as community colleges.Students who choose a two-year program are awarded Intermediate degree, or Associate degree. Associate degrees are awarded by a community, Junior or Technical college indicating that the student has completed a program of study in general education and a concentration in a specific area.
This degree requires 60 semester credit hours that means 15 hours per semester and two years.
Program Consist of Three Parts
  1. General education requirements
  2. Requirements within the student’s major field (specialized course )
  3. Electives (optional course)
Different Types of Associate Degrees
  • A.A. degree (or Associate of Arts degree)
  • ​A.S. degree (Associate of Science degree)
  • After getting Associate Degree the students can opt for four year undergraduate course in university system.
  • A.A.S. degree (Associate of Applied Science degree), are designed to prepare students to start working after completing  their  two year degree course.
Some colleges have agreements with a local college, hence the students after completing two years of community college will shift to these colleges to complete their two more years of study leading to four years of undergraduate degree.
Four-Year Programs
The four year program leads to a bachelor’s degree, known as college degree.The undergraduate bachelor’s degree comprises 120-128 semester credit hours (In case of students with Associate degree their 60 credit hours of this course will be transferred into the four year degree).
The Two Types of Bachelor’s Degrees Typically Offered are
  • B.A.degrees (Bachelor of Arts degrees): In B.A, the course work  is in  social sciences, humanities or fine arts
  • B.S.degrees (Bachelor of Science degrees): B.S.degree course is  in life, physical or mathematical sciences.
  • Other four year degree courses are:
  1. Bachelor of Engineering (B.Engg)
  2. Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs (BSPA)
  3. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BS N)
  4. Bachelor of Social work (BSW)
  5. Bachelor of Philosophy (B.Phil)
  6. Bachelor of Architecture Degree (B.Arch)
  7. Bachelor of Design (B . Des.)
The four years spent as an undergraduate at a university are  known as the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years.
Curriculam of These Courses
  • For graduate program the students are required to first study Core curriculum and once they have completed this part, they have to choose a specific field of study, known as Major.
  • The core curriculum of many undergraduate programs is based on general education courses which includes English writing, social sciences, humanities, history, mathematics and natural or physical sciences.
  • For Major, the students are required to choose a specific field of study.This is career oriented course.Majors consist of courses that are interrelated with the specialization, leading to professional degrees such as fine arts, pharmacy,engineering,business,agriculture, and other specialized fields.
  • Law and Medicine are not offered at the undergraduate level in the US.These courses are completed as professional study after receiving a bachelor’s degree.In US Law and study of Medicine do not require specific undergraduate major.They can be undergraduates in any field, but there are some courses which have to be taken for applying for medical degrees.Students who are preparing to attend medical school after completing their undergraduate careers are known as pre-med.
